Hi there,
in nearly every TT I know you have to take at least one master for your crew or army. I think this is not the case for Bushido (and I think I like it) but my question is, do you thing the crews will be competitive without Ekusa, Kato, Zuba and Hiro (and whatever "Masters" will come)?
My answer now would be partially, as I would say that this is the order in which the crews need their master by now (1 = needed, 4 = obsolete)
1. Cult
2. Temple
3. Wave
4. Protectorate
What do you think?
Cheers,

I think currently with each faction having ten or less models it's hard not to play with the better (read higher cost) models. February's models are 4, 5, 5, and 8 in rice cost and so it's easier the make a 35 band excluding the higher cost models. I actually think Aiko and the gorilla sub well for Ekusa, the orphan and araka sub for a puppet and kato. Any of the prefecture models for Hiro and waka and wu zang for zuba

I think that the original list is probably accurate relative to each other except for Temple of Ro-Kan.
I find Ekusa is quite easy to sub out, A list with Aiko, Gorilla and the Shisa works well.

I had been wondering about using a Cult crew without any puppets or Kato at all, but I think it might be a little too small/vulnerable.
Ikiryo, Nezumi, Araka, the Orphan and one rat swarm comes out at 35 rice, and has the benefit of not requiring much Ki leaching, so the Orphan and Ikiryo can pump out their abilities as much as they can.
While you may be able to get away without Kato, I think the model the cult really relys on is Ikiryo, the Geisha. She has very strong Ki generation and is the best direct damage dealer we have.
At the current stage of army development I wouldn't part with my Hiro. He's just too precious as a fighter and as a leader (fear control!). But later on, who knows?
I like Antonios 3 model cult list. It has damage, speed and tricks.
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
I always got the feeling, that Ekusa's leech/channel abilities make him so hard to substitute for the temple as I always use it a lot to give my crew some extra edge here and there. I like the idea of using Aiko and Gorilla for him and will give it a try (but I confess I'm biased they underperform compared to him).
Playing against the Protectorate I alway get the feeling that the jojimbo is the most essential for them, bit I see the fear factor in Hiro (as I always try to give him a good pause with Ekusa :)).
In general I like the idea that you could use a "Master" but you don't have to!
