Hi all,
Thought I would share some of my Prefecture models with you all. They took best painted at Jwardiff on the weekend which was an awesome event and there truly was some tough competition.
The head(s) that come with Takashi are great but I wanted a more individual looking leader for my army so I sculpted my own. I used a cast of Matsu's face as the basic skeleton on which I developed the nose, chin, neck and hair with layers of greenstuff. He's stood on the ruined head of a buddha statue I also cast in greenstuff. A really fun model to paint all round.
And because she is such a cool model, a very much so WIP Tenshi -
(note - the wrappings that flow off the model were shortened slightly to fit in my carry case... my fault for making a tall base for her)
My poor photography skills aside comments welcome as per usual.
A well deserved win there, still stunned by the diamonds accuracy, and the goldfish of course:)

Jwardiff on Saturday had the wave 6 models for best in faction. Sadly I missed out on best Prefecture by a single Tournament Point but GCT's Carlos was kind enough to give me one for taking the painting trophy for which I am very grateful.
Will get some more photo's up when I've finished the Seishin na Goei.

I’m very jealous. Did they had the female fire monk as well? There was no preview last weekend, and it was the fire monks turn. So frustrating. Why they always leave temple for last.

Quick update, thought I would show some of my latest paints. These have been taken with my phone camera so apologies for the quality and slight glare.
Tenchi also got an updated paint job and re-basing (she towered over all the other guys - more so than Hanso! - and was a bit top heavy):

Just discovered this topic, man i'm impressed!
The red works surprisingly good, i would have never tried that.
Can hardly give you improvement points, your paint job is superb!
You could have pushed the highligts of hanso's armor, to simulate the material...
Acctually, the only thing that really bothers me is the number of colors: i counted 6 on tenchi (red, white, dark yellow, brown, pale skin, black, not couting the various straps.
That is a little to much for me, i would reduce it (the red in particular, even if omit links to hanso...)

Agree! I think she looks fantastic. She doesn't match the rest of the models in terms of colour scheme, but she's not supposed to. She ties in nicely with them though, as you've used their main colours as accents on her. Super work.
Thanks again all for the feedback, been a while since I updated this so I broke the camera out this evening and got some picks of Hagane and the ashigaru. I should include the almost mandatory apology for the camera quality - I am not a photographer by any stretch of the imagination.
Hanso and his ashigaru - Minuro is currently on the work bench.
Hagane - not my best work admitedly but I gave it a shot and am fairly happy with the outcome. Her left hand was far too fidly to pin (in fact both wrists got the added wrist supports to make a stronger join) and the blade itself very thin so to save myself the trouble I sculpted a new left hand. [before anyone mentions it I know she should, as a samurai, have a wakizashi too - I have no excuses
]
As some of the more local players may know I based my Prefecture on the Phoenix clan from L5R so with the open space on her back I couldn't resit some freehand.
Anyway, hope you like and will finish with a pic of what I managed to bribe my girlfriend into doing to my Bushido case this weekend -

Just a quick update, Minuro has finally been finished (my least used prefecture mini) and thought I would share -
Also, I fixed Hagane and she now has the daishō she deserved (also re-did the right hand and a better photo... maybe)
and seeing as I am updating, my latest piece of bushido terrain with all the balsa wood I have lying around (still needs paint) :

I'm still learning with greenstuff, but you can check out my deviant art page (link should appear in my sig below), has a greens and conversions folder, with some treeking I sculpted based on a wire frame and some dryad parts for the head and... fingers? There is a third to round off the unit but didn't take any pictures and my warhammer army now sits in storage since I sadly dont have time for army scale games anymore. Hey Orochi, beautiful looking stuff. Quick queston re : Hagane - Did you have trouble getting the scabbards to fit on to the model at all? Also, if I were to pin the hands, what size drill bit would oyu recommend?

Hagane's scabbards were tricky (I think they are meant to hang from the right hip - more over the upper thigh), and I decided not to use them at all at first. In the end I split them in two, bent them into the typical curved shape then overlapped them on the left hip (I read somewhere that samurai would always wear their scabbards on the left hip due to a mix of style/convention and I would imagine fighting stance had something to with it - I realise this may have just been author's opinion however).
As for the pinning, I'm not sure on the size but almost as small as you can get for Hagane's wrists. I only pinned the right hand and then scuplted the yellow band around the join to seal it. I didn't even attempt the left hand, a half pin might have worked but I saved myself the trouble by scupting a new hand.

Hi Orochi!
After picking up a pack of smaller drill bits, I've had a go at Hagane. I've thus far used 0.7mm drill bit for a guide hole, then used the drill bit you get with the GW drill (1mm?) to fit in a bit of paperclip. Came through a little on the underside of the wrist, but I've covered that with a layer or two of liquid green stuff. About to start the right XD.

Update!
So I benched the Ito to get my Prefecture ready for Jwardiff and the latest to be finished is the time weilding samurai himself Ryoko-sha.
Note, I resculpted the mouth, not sure if mine was miscast or a dodgy mold line, but am fairly happy with the overall result.
Really like this model and I think he will come in handy at Jwardiff.
Fujitaka will be next so long as the lure of painting Ito Samurai doesn't interfere. :)

I initially tried to tidy up the mold lines as you normally would but in the end the mouth was almost indiscernable so took out a mini-file and took the mouth off (think Neo in the first Matrix film when Agent Smith has him in for questioning) scalpeled a groove where the mouth was to go and then greenstuffed either side, fortunately the chin was still intact so didn't take too much effort. Took me two attempts to get 'right'.
