So, with the indiegogo Campaign over. I have started working on the backer’s piece who won the chance for me to paint a starter set for them. He chose the Savage wave. With this in mind I decided to do something a bit more special than just painting the figures. He confirmed they would only be for display, so I decided a nice base for them was the order of the day.
He has given me his permission to post the WIP and final pics. ![]()
I will chart the WIP of this piece here.
Any questions a long the way, please ask, I'll do my best to answer them.

Very nice!
The buddha head (which is miraculously transformed from a stone), is it a greenstuff sculpt or a cast? Looks spiffy, either way.
How did you make the bamboo? It looks a little like scored cocktail sticks.
I follow the rules of bushido. I am a bushi.
Thank you.
Lol. Yes the stone was replaced, as I didn't like the idea. Unfortunately its not sculpted. It is a cast taken from the head that Waka has (with permission from GCT).
The bamboo is both cocktail sticks with the center piece sculpted as I needed it to be thicker.
That's one exceedingly awesome display board.

Will get pics up soon.
Looking fwd to more of ours Luke.
Seems like an age since I had anytime to paint. Real life work has just taken all my time latley, but last night got time to do the skin on Zuba.
"Pics dont do the mini justice as he looks better in RL. Red is a hard colour to take."
Indeed. I find that's the case about 99% of the time, really.
Looks great so far, though.

Trousers are all but done. I need to weather them, but have to wait until finished for the powders to set properly.
Also worked the red a bit more as I wantsnt happy with the lack of a little depth.
The skin is really getting real nice!

Ok Been a while. Been doing a GD project and a continual bought of illness(still not 100%), has slowed this down a little, but I'm back paiting again.
Anyway, boring stuff out of the way, here are some updates, again little washed out, but I'm nearly done with Zuba(will be finished tomorrow night)
Just got to neaten up the Japanese text on the back, now I have seen the picture.
Very nice work! Could we have a close up of the head?
I'll do one in my next round of pictures. :)
beautiful, loving see it progress:)

Progress has been slow on this, as I was diagnosed wth Cancer last October. I have still been keeping my commitments to people, but it has been a bit sparodic, but I am now through teh worst of it. :)
With that hereare updates on this.

Any questions. Fire away and I will as usual do my best to answer. :)

Thanks Greeny. Yes its going as well as it can. :) Stringing bows isnt that much of a chore, but then I am a bit OCD ;) and I think it adds a lot to the look.
Inspiring! This project is fantastic looking already! I hope you are on the mend, glad to hear you are doing ok.

For some reason, I think I asked this question somewhere else, but can't seem to remember where or find that thread, but... Did you make that holder yourself? If not where did you get it, if you did, how do you make it? Thanks! :) (LOVE THE RED!!!)
Hi!
Thanks a lot for the head details, but could you make it a little closer again? And sligthly to the right? I wana check the ears ;-) just kidking, of course...
I whish you a good recovery
Brilliant job, the skin is close to red perfection!
Thanks guys. @ Yoritomo I bough tthem about a year ago. they orginal guy doesnt sell them anymore, but you can find them here http://www.pk-pro.de/index.php?page=categorie&cat=164
My wasnt in painting the other night, so I took advantage and prepped all the other Bakemono and placed them so get an over all impression. Also converted two of them. the one wiht the 2 clubs, to give a more agressive stance and the Bake at the front to rest him on his spear nonchalantly.
Please go on with your painting ! I'm found of your Zuba, and can hardly wait to see the rest of the troup...
Thanks. They will pretty close to the Studio jobs I did for GCT with a few differences as per instuction from the owner. :)
This looks really awesome!
I can't wait to see the final result.
Btw what kinda color did you use to shade Zuba ( It looks a bit purple-brown to me)?
I think the shading is awesome.

Thanks ibanezmark.
To shade Zuba I used a mix of colours. the first shade was Oxford blue(VMC) I then mixed in reflective green(VMC) 50/50 mix, then a touch of Royal Purple(VMC). The face was above but without the green.
Hope that helps?
Yeah, thanks.
I'm trying to be more versatile, especially with shading. I noticed you get better (realistic) effects if you shade with different colors (not always). It's easy to think to shade with dark red or brown, but this blueish purple shade brings the figure to life.
Can't wait for the finished little bastards..... (or bakemonos)
