I hope they won't steal any of Bushido's thunder (see what I did here).
It really bums me out that while Bushido is still a growing game an established company releases something that is treading similar grounds (I don't know anything about the Ten thunders other than seeing the Ten Thunder brothers miniatures and the tidbits of info released so far).
At least we have kickass Jumo wrestlers and monks that can kick fire/throw water.

One of the 10T brothers looks very similar to Zuba.
They had Misaki for a long time and one of her attacks is Ten Thunders Strike. I don't know when she was released but I suspect they may have been planning this for a while and I doubt it has any intention of outdoing Bushido.
They also have Kirai and her crew who have a theme of Japanese ghosts.
Also known as Astraeos on Warseer!
Misaki is a very old miniature. It was released long before malifaux rules even came out. Ten Thunders brothers is a criminal organisation. They are not entirely Asian. Some of them look like mafia types.
with two skirmish games i dont think it's a huge problem, few malifaux models appeal to me as much as GCT stuff, though some are pretty, but if i wanted both i would have both, a six to ten model warband isn't exactly a whole new army:) I have a friend who's historical company are working on a wild west game, and it took me a couple of hours to roughly botch up a full warband, which is exactly why I like skirmish games! The ten thunders look interesting, and may get me playing casual malifaux if I can get past the rules infuriating me- but it won't stop me playing bushido either way:)
Never tell me the odds: Han Solo;)

I'd say there's enough difference between the games that there is room for both.
I actually like a bit of model crossover between games. It means it's easier to pick up a system you don't play with some existing models, and give it a try. Also it means you can proxy figures you don't like in one model's range for another you prefer.
My Bushido figures are currently helping run a Legend of the Five Rings campaign.
thats the reason i found bushido, i was looking for some figures to play legends of the five rings so have just started collecting cult and prefecture for the typical good and bad guys in my l5r campaign.
Hi All,
I'm a lurker just getting into Bushido but I'm also a Henchman for Wyrd, so if anyone has any Malifaux related questions I'm happy to chip in and answer. As others have said Ten Thunders have been in the background since the beginning of MX. With Kirai (Japanese Ghosts) entering the game in the second book. If anything they're at the unpopular end of the range, so I wouldn't worry too much.
On a side note as the most powerful things in Malifaux are; rats, puppets, children with nightmare friends, and anything with a mask, can anyone guess which faction I chose to start in Bushido?
PS: Don’t panic, I’m not here to poach people from the Jwar Isles through The Breach to Malifaux. In fact a number of people from my local club seem to be travelling the other way.
Everything I know I learned by killing smart people and eating their brains.
And I'm taking full credit for it taking off in our club. ;)
Side note; myself and MythicFox are both wyrd henchmen, so I'm also happy to answer any malifaux stuff. Don't think there's too much treading on toes going on though!
After a few more pictures have been spoiled I see that the Ten Thunders aren't that samurai inspired as I originally thought. I think I may have overreacted as the 3 Ten Thunder Brothers that were released not too long ago definetely had a samurai thing going on.
I've seen a couple far-Eastern based things coming out recently. The one I'm most-interested in is Greebo's Nippon-Goblin team they're looking to get funded on IndieGoGo (for Blood Bowl, essentially).
Then there's Kensei, that's all about far-Eastern warfare (though I think it's a bit more mass-combat than Bushido's skirmish game).
This sort of stuff is just gonna happen (like, there's not just one sci-fi, or historical (even within a certain time-period) or fantasy game) another companies are going to make games with far-Eastern feel to them, too.
I still only play Bushido, though (but I really, really, really want to pick up those Greebo models, too).

Of course those things are going to happen it's just I hate to see a new company lose players to a company that's been around for a little longer and is suddenly doing the same thing.
Not to rag on Malifaux as I love the setting and the miniatures. I even have a Seamus crew all painted up.
I'm also not saying that people shouldn't be playing Malifaux, it's just that I have been enjoying Bushido a lot since returning from real life stuff (painting and buying minis mostly) that I was kind of iffy on the whole Ten Thunders thing, if that makes any sense?
The thing is that Malifaux and Bushido, while both being skirmish-sized (mabye a half-dozen models for each side), have exceedingly few similarities beyond that. The gameplay really is different with the cards vs. dice. The individual balances between models is also a bit different. I won't get into a "which is better" conversation, as that makes no sense (and by the way, I'm not saying that anyone else is trying to start that), but I will say that I personally prefer Bushido. I sold off my Malifaux stuff pretty quick after a couple games and talking with some friends about it. I didn't like how some of the mechanics worked.
I don't think Bushido will specifically "lose" people to Malifaux because of some new Eastern-inspired models in that system. If people want to play Malifaux, then they will because of preferences for the actual system, itself. Same thing with people sticking with (or coming to) Bushido.
Also of note, since both games require such small armies to actually play vs. something like Warhammer (either version) or Warmachine/Hordes, it's really likely people could own both a "good-sized" Malifaux AND Bushido collection and play and enjoy both games.

Hi,
I can only speak from a painters viewpoint as I have not played any game system for many years (not through the lack of trying I might add) and have only just recently picked up a paintbrush again.
I continually scroll through various webstores selling the myriad of different miniatures and there were two main skirmish games that held my attention due to the potential of the miniatures as a painting challenge: Malifaux and Helldorado....that was until Bushido caught my eye, whose entire range caused me to rub my hands in aticipated delight!
Needless to say I have made my first purchase in over 10yrs from this very site and intend to make a few more before you can say "Happy New Year!"

Hello Mike,
Welcome to Bushido and be sure to share your paintjobs with us. Which model do you plan to tackle first?

My first model, when it arrives, will be Shichiro.
I got this one as a tester as I fully intended to start with The Cult, with characters such as Kato & Ikiryo being of particular interest in the starter set which was to be my next purchase.
Then I saw the greens for The Ito so am now torn a little...:)
Either way I am looking forward to improving my painting skills on some models that look worthy of that little bit of extra attention to detail.
It is also a new scale for me also having only painted at 28 & 15mm before.

The best way to look at the fact that there are other games out there with far eastern inpiration is:
Ooooooh, nifty stuff I can use to liven up my Bushido games!
Wonder if they'll do any asian flavoured Terraclips terrain!
I follow the rules of bushido. I am a bushi.
Got these on order as well as the Asian Zen garden bases which I plan of using for my Temple (when they arrive with the Ito)
I was fantastic! And it was a bloody good laugh!

The bonsai tree is cool and the lantern might be useful. Personally though, I think the Toro gate is a little meh, and while the Foo Dog is nice, the ones from aintsy castings are really good and well priced, and they are also an opposable pair.
They are scenery elements though. I'm guessing these are more for augmenting bases with.
