I might be interested, but I'll have to wait a week or so to check my schedule. Are there any hotels nearby? (As in within walking distance?)
Oh wow really !?
Cool
There is a couple of B&B's within a couple of kms, depends on how far you like to walk ;) It's 4kms to the coast, the Indian ocean and sunset views.
This super-long link will hopefully give you a view of nearby accomodation.

EDIT: apparently I am working that weekend but its ages away, got plenty of time to switch it up, ticket purchased!
"Have you forgotten? Aku Soku Zan... To Slay evil immediately was the justice shared by the Shinsengumi and the Manslayer. I cannot stand seeing you like this anymore… "
I'm in.
As if there was any doubt.
Taking the Temple, just to get them painted as well as my Cult.
Awesome looking players pack
Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend.
Eight hours, three tickets sold
Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm excited!
Just spotted a small omission in the player pack. Both lists must be the same faction.
Cheers

Just checked the air fare and its a little steep but great news on the three sales in less than a day.
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
Surely that would be tax deductible for yourself, and there's only one opportunity to attend the first Bushido tournament in the Southern Hemisphere?
Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend.
If any of the GCT staff want to make the trip half way around the planet, to the most isolated city in the world (apparently) I will buy your ticket for you!
4 ticket sales on the first day. I'm half surprised... and half not because it's an awesome game :)
Cheers
AdvanceOp
Guessing that offer of a ticket applies to the tournament ticket not the plane ticket?
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
lol.. yes sorry... I will buy your Iron Dragon tournament ticket for you!
If I could afford to fly you here, I would come to you and visit relatives at the same time
Cheers
AdvanceOp
I thought you meant plane ticket!
Damn it so did I.
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
It did read like plane ticket Dave. Got to be careful.
Here's the tokens to be given away to the first 16 players to buy a ticket.

Update time!
I've been holidaying in Australia's wonderful south west but I have managed to squeeze in some work the week before and in the last couple of days
First up, Trophies are complete!

I added a small Jwar feel to the event by making two of the awards out to Daimjo's rather than Daimyo's :) Was a new experience hand-making trophies, very satisfying, and I'm already a little envious of the guys who get to take these home :)
I've also been inspired by the gorintō thread and put together a couple of terrain pieces featuring these monuments. Checkout the thread for some WiP shots.

Those are insanely cool.

Really nice trophies!
I follow the rules of bushido. I am a bushi.
Thanks Guys. I was really pleaased with the way they came out.
New Update for Iron Dragon:
Welcome aboard Secret Weapon Miniatures as a prize sponsor!
The guys will be sending us some prize support by way of these cool bases for the winners next Bushido Faction
I plan on getting some for my Ito when they are released as everything else I have is already based.
Cheers

Those bases are pretty awesome... I need to get around to ordering a set for myself.

Terrain Update!
Finally got some terrain to a stage where I think it's worth showing off :)
1st Table off the ranks is a "Reflective Garden" the plan started out like this...

... but ended up like this.

The terrain still needs flocking but it's most of the way there. I've also got a second statue (WiP) to add to the collection, as I felt the statues fitted in better with the whole "feel" of the table.
Other Works in Progress are:
- Bakemono swamp village
- Ruined jungle temple
- Prefecture Farm
Cheers
AdvanceOp
looking forward to seeing the rest, hopefully your efforts will be rewarded by swarms of players:)

Agreed- super stuff!
Thanks guys. I'll try to keep you all posted as often as I complete stuff :)
Today's progress was lots of bitsy things, got the flock on the bases above, built a dozen pavise(s?) for some barriers, but most of my effort went into this (slightly blurry) farmhouse.
which can be opened up to place models easily in the interior.
I'm off fishing tomorrow and demo'ing Bushido all day at a local games club Sunday, so there won't be much progress for a couple of days. Then I'm back to work so sadly things will slow down a lot :(
Cheers

Nice house!
I follow the rules of bushido. I am a bushi.
Wicked house. Love the interior
Never tell me the odds: Han Solo;)
(avatar from http://www.sillof.com/C-samuraiwars.htm)
Thanks for th kind words guys. I was really lucky with the house as the interior was an after thought. Turned out I had already cast (Hirst Arts) floor tiles, and with the fire pit, the exact number needed. The interior dimension was also within a matchstick width of the floor. Amaterasu was shining down on me that day :)
As anticipated very little progress over the last few days. Too darned busy
Stoopit RL.
However, I'm happy to announce we have Tactics Perth on board as a prize sponsor.

Interesting break down, curious to see the lists.
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
Yeah, I'm planning something a bit different. Definatley taking the Orphan/Wrath with all that Armour/Tough around.
Will hopefully have my idol's finished this weekend.
Legend tells of a legendary warrior whose kung fu skills were the stuff of legend.
And the Temple players will no doubt bring a Shisa or two
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
Well what I *love* about Bushido is the element of strategy. Played a practice match against Prefecture tonight.
Hiro, Hanso, Daisuke, Matsu, Mizuchi and Minuro
vs
Ekusa, Kenko, Yumi, Aiko & Gorilla and Kitsune.
I had some absolute horror dice rolls that saw Kenko taken out by Minuro IN HAND TO HAND COMBAT! and Kitsune decapitated by an exhausted Hiro, but still won the game (Keii) on victory points through cunning and a generous serve of serenity.
Sadly Brookesy has had to pull out of Iron Dragon :( but Sosoomi has now bought a ticket.
Cheers

Well, I really must say that I wish I could go. Perhaps if the GCT guys traveled West instead of East to get there they could pick me up along the way.
Wha'd'ya say, guys? Road trip?

With 2 weeks to go till the biggest Bushido tournament in the southern hemisphere!... Iron Dragon!
Today was a day of shiageru (finishing things).
Garden of Contemplation
First table is the one featuring the gorintos. Nothing too much added here just one piece to bring it up to six. Unfortunately my Gonrintos have been taking some damage in transit :( so I may have to pack this table away until the event.
Bakemono Swamp Village

The smaller hut fenced off mud pit still has the water effect drying, but you get the idea.
... a close up of Zuba lurking in the tree

... and a close up of the captured sashimono (back banners).

Ankor Wot
This table was inspired by Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. Originally this was going to be over-grown jungle, but then I realised it would just be 6 pieces of impassable terrain. Now I'm wondering if it's too open and welcome any feedback. I've still got some time to either add some bigger ruins to it or come up with something simple like more Buddha statues.
Here's a closer shot giving an idea of the height of the walls.

Prefecture Farm

Nestled near a pine forest and featuring the farm house previously posted. It now has an adjoining wood hut, and some cabbage fields.
Miscellaneous Others

Some pavise. I've got plans for a Ryu training ground or possibly army camp (not much of a plan) and these will feature in it.
And for those that remember the ol' demo table is still here as a back-up if required.

So... did you spot the ninja?
Cheers
AdvanceOp
There's some good looking terrain you've got there!
Love the swamp village. And the captured sashimonos!
And of course I saw the ninja, what else is sixth sense good for!
I follow the rules of bushido. I am a bushi.
Looks awesome, how are you going to play the Cabbage fields?
"To a real warrior, power perceived may be power achieved."
really really good stuff!
Never tell me the odds: Han Solo;)
(avatar from http://www.sillof.com/C-samuraiwars.htm)
Thanks guys :)
Kumo senses tingling eh? ;)
I'm letting players hoist themselves on their own petards when it comes to terrain (that is, players decide) however I'd suggest it's difficult terrain... it's not easy to fight in leafy greens.... but open visibility (they are small leafy greens)
Thanks for the post in the blog :)
Cheers
AdvanceOp
I played around with some numbers and realised I can make 50 points just by adding Wu Zang to the mix. So, it's possible the Savage Wave will make an appearance at Iron Dragon after all!
Here's the final Terrain Update;

The Graveyard
This one was my son's idea and I initially had no idea how I was going to pull off an Asian themed to it, but I'm pretty happy with the final results.
Here's a closer shot of the tombstones

Ankor Wot

Updated. After some reflection and discussion with Reaper the board was just too flat. So I've added a couple of buildings to the table.
Because the steps are impractical for mini's, a clever step key and been hidden in the ruins

The square block is removable...

... and splits into two identical pieces...

.. which are places on the steps to create a platform miniatures can balance on...

With less than a week to go look forward to daily updates!
Idols and Kami
As this is an entry level event I'll be letting players get away with just tokens/bases if they really have too, but this is the sort of thing that scores bonus points.
Idols/Shrine

Here's one of the three sets of idols I've prepared for the home clan. Simple set of three Buddha statues I picked up from a two buck shop and repainted to look stone. I haven't made a separate Shrine as one of the idols can be used for that... but that would be even cooler.
Kami
I've tried where I can (read: have time) to theme the Kami to the factions I have
For the Temple I've cheated and just used one of Koji's monkeys

For Prefecture I've been looking around for a small Chinese dragon, but this is the best I could do. It's a GW Wood Elf sprite.

For the Savage Wave I had a few of little chaps hanging around from Hasslefree Minis. Kinda reminded me of the Nian... so not such a nice kami...also looks a easy to catch as a greased pig... with teeth.

For the Cult... well I let Reaper steal my idea so I'll leave the unveiling to him (plus I haven't actually made one yet)
Cheers
AdvanceOp
kami's are great, the step for ankor wat is doublebacongeniusburger:) you've done yourself proud with this lot, Jwardiff is definitely going to have to get polished up for next year:)
Never tell me the odds: Han Solo;)
(avatar from http://www.sillof.com/C-samuraiwars.htm)
Thanks mate, the universal balance to this is that, as one of my players has pointed out, there is no Catch The Kami in the players pack... it's one of the scenario's I cut *facepalm*
Today's Daily Update
... is the Ringer. This is what a fully painted, complete with extras (even if they are not required) force looks like...
Note of Irony: Bobata is in the Ringer. Wu Zang, the master of Shadows face is... well hidden by Shadows!
Also, I have a spare Prefecture faction to 50 points fully painted (Starter + Dragon) if anyone is in Perth this weekend wants to borrow it for the first and biggest Bushido tourney in the Southern Hemisphere. Bushido event. No better way to spend $25AUD on a Sunday, and you may even walk away with a prize. Tickets still available online
Edit: That's Perth in Western Australia, not Scotland or any other Perth's ;)

Apologies for my absence, ironic seeing that I think I was the first to purchase a ticket, but it has not been a good week for me with a death in the family that hasn't sunk in yet and my wife in hopsital again.
Hope it was a good turn out.
"Have you forgotten? Aku Soku Zan... To Slay evil immediately was the justice shared by the Shinsengumi and the Manslayer. I cannot stand seeing you like this anymore… "
Well, the first ever Australian Bushido tournament has finally come & gone. I had a great time in the lead up and the event ran very smoothly. Well, except me having to write the results spreadsheet on the fly during round 2 after the per-prepared one failed completely!
With any comp this small competition is always going to be tough. On top of that some of the players who came along had literally 1 game or less under their belt. However, I think that everyone had a great time and learned a lot (certainly I learned a thing or two).
Sadly Masked Minstrel had to pull out so the ringer wasn't needed and we only ended up running with 8 players, equaling the UK events. Next year Gadget! On to the results!
Daimjo of the Iron Dragon (Best Overall) - Drew Lovell
Daimjo of War (Best General) - Drew Lovell
Most Honorable Opponent (Best Sports) - Zen Fairborn
Amateratsu's Favour (Best Painted) - Drew Lovell
Chopsticks of Wisdom (Wooden Spoon) - Seth Capon
Final Standings (All scores)
1. Drew Lovell (Cult)
2. Zen Fairborn (Temple)
3. John Zaknich (Prefecture)
4. Neil Formosa (Cult)
5. Dave Horne (Cult)
6. Helen Capon(Temple)
7. Brett Holman (Prefecture)
8. Seth Capon (Prefecture)
Thanks to everyone who attended and made it possible to hold this event.
So spread the word, get out there playing and let's make Iron Dragon 2013 the biggest in the world!
Photo's to follow later when I've done the post-processing.
Cheers

Well done to the winners, and to you personally for organising such an event. Great pictures too. I'm sure the event was so much more enjoyable for the excellent scenery you provided.
