couple questions from a new player

Hi. I just discovered this game and had a fun little 3 vs 3 demo game. Hotaru, Yumi and Kenko vs. Hiro, Hanso and Minuro. We used Yu jing models and a Miyamoto Musashi model from Infinity to represent them in our demo and the monks killed them all and only lost Kenko. It was fun though for such a simple 3 on 3 demo. I immediately ordered a bunch of bushido minis as they are nice minis and the game seems good. Now for the questions... Is the combat simultaneous? If the initiating player kills the other player do they still get their attacks if they rolled attack dice? It seems like they wouldnt but then why roll all the dice at the same time? Why not just have the attacker only roll his attack dice and the defender the defence dice then if the defender lives he rolls any attack dice? Is it for things like defence into attack? So you see that your second best defence die beats his attack so you switch the best defence die into attack? Is that how it works?

Regarding Ki... If I have 2/6 I start with 2 then on my first turn just focus on my turn I get 2 more so when the second turn starts I get another 2 and I'll have my max 6 ki to use for the second turn... Correct?

You are correct in everything about combat. You roll every dice, then the unit with the first attack does so, and if the other survives and stands (a knocked down unit can't respond to an attack), only then will be possible to attack.

And yes, that's how ki generation works. Every miniature start with their respective ki amount (in your case, 2) and get the same amount at the beginning of every ki phase. If you daclare a "focus" complex action, then you get that much ki once again (in your case, 2).

Thanks Hakkor for the quick response. I can't wait for my minis to come in. I'm going to try a few more little games using proxy models while I wait for the real models to arrive. I would also like to experiment with how large the forces can go for a game and how large of a playing surface I can use. I'm not to sure I can limit myself to 4 or 5 models per side on a 2'2 board for very long wink. Hopefully, models will continue to be released for this game. I guess I could always double up... By that I mean, use Hiro's stats and cost and just call him Takeshi instead to artificially raise the size of the battle once I have all the models in the faction. I can see myself having all the models pretty quick if I find I am enjoying the game.
