Enter the Dragon (Updated 24/07/11 Finished!!!!)

Well not to be outdone by my colleague I thought I would post up my first completed efforts for Bushido, with a painted Ashigaru.

Painted Ashigaru

Hopefully people like it, let me know what you think in regards to comments and criticisms.

As to Mr Beans, look upon it and know thy enemy.

Great colour scheme, the green and yellow really contrast well and the red finishes it nicely. Good work

Looks great!  The colour scheme works really well and adds a good, solid feel to the model.

He looks great dude, you should paint more often! :P

I like the colour scheme, and the fact he's actually got eyes. Virtually none of my models have proper eyes (through careful model selection)

Thanks for all the kind words, I'm currently working on the second yari ashigaru, so will put pics up when she is finished.

I'll be honest as the colour scheme isn't really mine. Decided to paint them in the colours of the dragon clan from legends of the five rings, which was the clan I used to play when they had the miniature game. The only thing I really added was the red for the rope. Still I'm quite pleased with how it looks.

lovely looking, the way that the green appears to be slightly shiney for a lacared armour effect is good, something I hadn't thought about myself, assuming you was going for that look?

I wish I was, it seems to be the particular brand of varnish I use. It's matt and in real life is matt but seems to get a bit of shine in photos.

Well I've actually had my second Ashigaru painted for a while, but not had a chance to post photos.

In the mean time though, I've also managed to finish painting Hanso, so thought I'd post some pictures

Hope you like them, and if you don't you can just zoom in on the group shot and peer in my neighbours windows.

They look nice and some Japanese armour was laquered to look shiney but not all.  It depends on the era and how well kept the armour was as well.  Much like modern times some felt a need to make it look clean some didn't care :D

A nice goofle search example.

OMG they're making out!  surprise

Hang on... ewwwww they're old people making out. frown

Your painting is very impressive, you've even managed an expression on Hanso that, to me, seems like he'd like to say 'This is all the sword I need to kill you with'.  Great colour scheme too, really stands out.

Slipping on messes you made when I hit you makes me more excitable.

@the man, you're right, he has seemed to create a more suggestive expression on Hanso, well pointed out.

Actually, no.  Purple and yellow are complementary colors.

does that mean players will want to buy new figures twice a year to keep up with fashion? sounds like a great business model if you ask me... surprised a certain company making super humans in suits haven't though of it. Of wait, they have, only they removed the seasonal aspect, but that's another chapter... err I mean story ;-)

Great looking group.  The colour scheme really works well.

You should put Hanso next to the oni.  The way he is looking up adds a real sense of drama to the model.  I can almost imagine him saying:  "Right then you big red b@st@rd, I'm going to hit you with this as hard as I can..."

Thanks for all the kind words, am going to be working on Minuro next and then finally Hiro, so shall post more pics up when those two are done.

@Corpsesmith, I only wish that was true regarding Hanso. Given my last game he'd actually run up, get a really poor success roll and then use his No-Dachi as a tickling stick rather than it's intended purpose.

I must take better pictures of those, they make the models look really quite shiney and they're not in real life.

Well finally finished them, and got everything all done so I have, so thought I'd put up some photos of the remaining ones.

Hiro with an added sashimono stolen from my friend Mr Beans who didn't want it on his Kairai Ashigaru. A slightly hamfisted attempt at writing the kanji for "Dragon" on it

Minuro

The completed starter set, looked upon by statues of their ancestors. Which is vaguely true since they were made using a pack of Dragon Clan figures from the old Clan War game that I still had.

Well let me know what you think. I apologise once again for my photos, I'm not very good, and the varnish I use seems to show up looking shinier than it actually is in real life.

Great to see the whole team together.  Your freehand on the kanji is excellent, and I think the idea of putting the banner on Hiro really works well.

As mentioned, great to see the whole lot painted and together. Great work on the sashimono on Hiro, I ordered some from perry miniatures to go on my Ashigaru. Not sure about using them or not - but it does look good.

Thanks for the kind words. I knew I wanted the banner on hiro and originally had grand schemes of putting the dragon clan symbol on it, but at that size the curves I think would blend together into blobs. So I did the kanji instead.

Must admit while I did freehand it, I was using a 0.05mm engineering pen, which makes it a lot easier. Same as how I do eyes.
