Special Defences, Reducing Success Level, Still Succeed?

Hi,

Learning and trying to parse what the different abilities and such actually mean and while doing os came across some of the special attacks and defences and how they reduce success level. If you use a special defence and using it reduces your success level to zero or below do you still succeed at the defence/attack?

E.g.: Counter Attack Defence. Let's say I succeed in my Defence with 1 Success Level. I then subtract 2 from the Success Level for the special defence and am at -1. Do I now fail the defence and get hit?

Thanks!

Coubter attack defensa does not reduce the success level. AFTER you successfully defend, It lets you make a damage roll AS if you had scored a success level equal to your defense success level -2. If the result would be lower than 0, you can't roll. If it's 0 or greater, roll normally.

I hope the answer isn't too messy
